I'm so excited to share my experience with you in this blog post. It's all about my journey with my two adorable lovebirds while I was stationed in Italy in 2022. Let me tell you, it was quite an adventure! But before I dive into the details, let's save some of those stories for another time, okay?
Now, picture this: I found out that I had to head back to the United States, and here I was with my feathered buddies. I couldn't bear the thought of leaving them behind, so I decided to bring them with me. But let me tell you, the whole process of shipping them across the ocean and dealing with quarantine was overwhelming. I mean, I constantly questioned myself if I was being a good feather parent by subjecting them to a 10-hour flight and a 30-day quarantine before we could be together again.
To make matters even more complicated, the military couldn't assist me with transporting my exotic birds, and since they were purchased in Italy, I had to go through a different process to get them into the States. Can you imagine the amount of research I had to do? I reached out to multiple agencies, hoping to get some definitive answers, but most of the time, I couldn't even get a hold of anyone! Talk about frustrating.
But hey, I didn't let that stop me. I rolled up my sleeves and started gathering all the certifications and required vet documents. Then came the challenge of finding an airline that would be willing to take my feathered buddies on board. And let's not forget about the logistics of getting them from the airport to the quarantine location, which was a good two-hour drive from JFK airport. Phew, it was a lot to handle!
Throughout this whole process, I couldn't help but doubt myself. Was I doing the right thing? Was it worth all the hassle and the costs? But you know what? I know firsthand what it feels like to be a pet parent. I wanted the absolute best for my feathered babies, and I was willing to go above and beyond to keep them with me no matter where life took me.
That's why I decided to create Furry Feather Friends Travel Consulting agency.
